The idea that was missing

Permutis came to life because one simple idea was missing: a modern platform for genuine swapping. It all started with a radio show. A swap segment was featured there — one listener offered an item, and others could call in to suggest their own things to trade. As simple as the segment was, the question it raised was just as big: why isn't there a truly great app for this?

The realization

After plenty of research, one thing became clear: there are countless platforms for classifieds, secondhand goods and marketplaces. Yet hardly any of them captures real swapping in a meaningful way. In the end it almost always comes back to money, prices and sales — the very thing that contradicts the true spirit of swapping. Permutis was built to reimagine that spirit: no money, no prices — just swapping.

The name

The name is inspired by the Latin permutare, meaning to swap, to exchange, to trade. Likewise, permutatio stands for exchange, change and barter. It captures exactly what the platform is all about: connecting value, passing things on and making real exchange possible.

The person behind it

Lech Downarowicz · Founder of Permutis

Behind Permutis stands Lech Downarowicz — software developer, AI expert and entrepreneur with around 30 years of experience in software development, web systems and e-commerce. That experience flowed directly into the planning, architecture and execution of the platform.

The journey

From the first sketches and screenshots, through many concept phases, to a fully working platform, Permutis was an intense development journey. Artificial intelligence played a central role along the way — in brainstorming, planning, structuring and building. But the foundation always remained human experience, technical understanding and a clear vision: to solve a real problem. Permutis was built without investors and with around 1,000 euros of starting capital. What began as a one-man show keeps evolving, step by step.
